Timeline

Fimjameson is the son of shifting cultivators in the Northeast Indian hill country of Manipur. He has two sisters and a brother. With their parents they attend the First Evangelical Free Church of India. As a shifting cultivator, his parents burns down a section of hillside jungle and plants crops. After the harvest, they move on to new areas and start the process all over again. This is a very difficult way to support a family and it ruins the environment. Entire mountainsides are now depleted of vegetation, except for a few weeds. All the wildlife moves elsewhere and the hillsides quickly erode. Fimjameson has other hopes and dreams. Rather than becoming a shifting cultivator, he wants to remain in school and find a better way of making a living. But due to his family's impoverished conditions, they can no longer pay his school fees. Lalremvel needs a sponsor who will see him through his school years.
