Timeline

Debora is the precious, young daughter of a shifting cultivator in the village of Parvachawm in Manipur, India. She is a member of the Hmar tribe and has one sister. Tragically, her mother died from Malaria in 2006. Her father works hard to support his two daughters. Shifting Cultivation is a common farming system in her region. It is the practice of burning dense sections of the forest or jungle in order to clear land for farming. Crops are then planted and harvested until the soil's fertility is exhausted. This is an extremely dangerous and physically demanding way to make a living. Debora's father realizes that an education is needed to provide new opportunities and a better way of life for his daughter. He has enrolled her in school and is trusting that the Lord will provide a sponsor so that she can continue there.
