Timeline

Christina lives in Pherzawl, Manipur, in the beautiful hills of Northeast India. Her father is a shifting cultivator. A shifting cultivator works in the forest, burning areas to farm. Once the land is cleared, he plants and harvests crops. When the land is depleted, he moves to another area of the forest and begins the process again. This is a difficult and dangerous type of farming and results in a very meager income. Christina's parents hope that she can have more options for her future. Christina is the second of four daughters and loves going to school and playing with her friends. She especially enjoys learning English and singing. However, many girls in her village end up finding work as a housekeeper or joining their parents working in the field. Her parents realize that an education is needed to provide new opportunities and a better way of life for their daughter. They have enrolled her in our mission school and are trusting that the Lord will provide a sponsor so that she can continue there. The education Christina will receive would not only prepare her academically, but spiritually as well. As she finds her worth and dignity in Jesus Christ, she will shine like a light to all of those around her.
