Alex Lalmalsawma has just started school but already faces the bitter prospect of having to drop out of school due to poverty. He is praying for a sponsor so he can continue. Alex's parents are shifting cultivators. They burn down a section of hillside jungle and then plant a crop such as ginger, rice, vegetables, etc. After the November harvest, they move on to new areas and start the process again. This is a very poor and difficult lifestyle and Alex's parents do not wish it on their son Alex lives with his parents, sister and brother in the remote village of Khanpui in the Northeast Indian state of Mizoram. He loves the Lord and regularly attends Sunday School. With sponsorship, Alex can cultivate the gifts and knowledge within him to achieve the potential that God has for him. Rather than follow in the footsteps of his parents, with education he can pave the way for a better future for himself and his family.
